Linnea Hartz

I was born and raised in west Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University in 2022. I was a dual major in Genomics and Molecular Genetics, and Human Biology with a minor in Philosophy. From my freshman year to my senior year, I had the opportunity to work as an Undergraduate Research Assistant within Plant Biology Laboratories in the Lab of Jianping Hu. During this time, I studied the process of photorespiration in Arabidopsis thaliana. I also had the chance to conduct independent research studying the effects of biotic and abiotic environmental stress conditions on photorespiratory mutants. This experience allowed me to pursue my passion for molecular mechanisms and helped me gain insight into the innovative research being done at academic institutions. I am fortunate to continue my contributions to academic research under the instruction of Lianyong Wang investigating the interactome of chloroplasts.

Outside of work I am an avid reader and lover of outdoor activities. Some of my favorite things include hiking, skiing, boating, softball and golf. The most exciting new adventure I recently had was skydiving in Arizona. If the weather is not so forgiving, I enjoy a good book, some coffee, and  playing any variety of boardgames or card games.
