Jason Punskovsky

Since learning about the central dogma in high school biology, I’ve been fascinated by how complex biological systems — from single-celled organisms to the human brain — can arise from a simple genetic code. I began my formal research experience studying maize meristem development and regulation at Rutgers University - New Brunswick, graduating in 2024 with a B.A. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Sociology. 

I joined the Jonikas Lab as a Research Technician shortly after graduating, where I work to engineer components of an algal carbon-concentrating mechanism into plants with the goal of improving plant photosynthesis. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, trail biking, solving the NYT crossword, and reading
